Impulse

Over the past 10 years, the pressure on maintenance organizations has significantly increased. The expectations for shorter downtimes and tightly scheduled projects place high demands on companies and their personnel. Currently, due to cost or deadline pressures from operators or owners, it is almost impossible to implement the required standards and quality.

The aftermath of the pandemic, high demand, and an acute shortage of skilled workers are further burdening maintenance companies. Poorly trained personnel are currently unable to address this situation effectively because there is simply no time to transfer the complex requirements to new staff.

Be it in practice or theory, EASA requirements in Part-66 only cover the bare minimum and do not contribute to improving the situation under current conditions. Web-based training is the wrong approach for future maintenance staff.

The consequence is that the quality offered within maintenance companies has noticeably declined in recent years. From a safety perspective, adherence to standards should have the highest priority. Currently, only a few maintenance organizations—mostly those working directly with an AOC - gaining the standards and provide top notch services.

Fast and cheep are attributes that do not harmonize well with the imposed EASA regulations.

With regard to maintaining the value of an aircraft, it should always be in the owner's interest to rely on experienced and at least well trained staff — an increasingly neglected aspect today.

To counteract this development, I would like to pass on my expertise, whether as an independent experienced Certifying Staff for quality assurance or as a coach to train future aviators.
